With the Rise in Coffee, Gourmet Coffee Beans are Becoming an Enjoyable Luxury and a Welcome Gift

In the past century, coffee producers had looked into ways of saving money, in the process their coffee became weaker, and in a word, bad. So small coffee brewers saw a need to bring good robust coffee back and in the 60's and 70's, little coffee houses started popping up all over America. Today, more and more people are more than willing to pay more for great coffee, and with that demand, there's now an abundance of different coffees available. And now they can be delivered straight to your door.

A brief history of coffee

Coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia around the year 850 AD, legend says that at this time a goat herder noticed that his goats seemed more playful after eating the red berries of a coffee shrub, afterwards, the herder tried some and noted being happier.

The actual drinking of brewed coffee is thought to have first taken place on the Arabian peninsula, where the Arabs roasted then boiled the beans, making a drink they called "qahwa." Over the years, coffee had been spreading, and in 1475 the first coffee shop opened in Constantinople.

Over the next two hundred years it spread throughout Europe, then brought to the New World by Captain John Smith in 1607 (though some histories claim that Canadians were already drinking coffee). Coffee has been growing increasingly popular ever since, and is as popular as ever today, as we can see with a coffee house on most every corner.

Health benefits - that's right - health benefits!

Studies show that coffee is actually good for you, contrary to popular belief. It's actually loaded with those wonderful cancer-fighting antioxidants, having four times the antioxidant content of green tea. These antioxidants also neutralize free radicals, which are electrically unbalanced cells that kill healthy cells. Free radicals contribute to premature aging, cancer, cardiovascular disease, degenerative brain disorders, cataracts, the decline of the immune and nervous system, and other health problems.

Last but not least, gourmet coffee has an unparalleled taste and aroma. To the coffee lover, few things compare to a house filled with the scent of good fresh coffee. That's what makes this delightful luxury the perfect gift for that coffee lover in your life, whether it be for a loved one or yourself. And the different types of gifts are numerous, from coffee of the month clubs to gourmet gift baskets.
