The technology and quality of space saver coffee makers has greatly improved over the last ten years
The first generation of coffee machines designed with space conservation in mind were simply stripped down machines stuffed in a small plastic square.
Later they made these plain boxes with the option of mounting to the bottom of the cabinet. This was a big step in the right direction and also a good indicator of innovations to come.
Today, space saver coffee makers have a more pleasing design and feature all of the things you would expect to find in any "regular" coffee maker. They still mount under the cabinet, so you can utilize the space beneath them. Most come standard with features such as, a programmable digital clock, removable reservoir, auto off, and some even come with a stainless steel thermal carafe.
Companies that produce these coffee makers have also been paying close attention to taste of the coffee brewed as much as design and features. These makers no longer just heat water and pump it through grinds, there are chambers, vacuum pots, and charcoal filters for great tasting coffee.
Gone are the days when owning a space saving coffee maker is for squares, because today you can serve great tasting coffee you will not be embarrassed to serve to your guests.

Capresso C1500
This espresso machine/coffee center is lauded by most users and reviewers alike - and I should hope so with a price tag that usually runs around $600. If you have a passion for coffee, though, this might be just the machine you need, and would probably even work well in a small coffee house.
